Times Higher Education is seeking a reporter with an eye for a story and an insatiable appetite for news for a four-month, fixed-term contract.
The successful candidate will join our award-winning team in the London newsroom covering developments in higher education around the world.
They will have several years’ experience as a reporter, a proven ability to bring in off-diary and exclusive stories, and a willingness to travel when required.
A knowledge of the university sector would be ideal, but is not a necessity – we are looking first and foremost for an excellent reporter who will bring energy and enthusiasm to the role.
This post is for four months, covering a period of extended paternity leave from April to August, however the right person would be well placed for future opportunities within our growing team.

Key responsibilities
- Find and write news stories to the standards and expectations of the news editor
- Produce clear, accurate copy quickly and to agreed deadlines for print and online
- Write blogs and to contribute to the publication’s video and audio output as required
- Write features when required, to the standards expected by the commissioning editor
- Attend conferences and other events in the UK and overseas as directed
Qualifications and experience
- We are looking for a talented team player with a track record of exclusive, off-diary and agenda setting news and features
- Two years’ experience with a reputable title, website or agency
- Must be able to write quickly, accurately and with flair
- A full understanding of libel law is essential
- An NCTJ qualification or equivalent is preferable
