This is an opportunity for a talented online journalist to join a market-leading team. M and H Media Ltd is a publishing and events company serving the cultural sector.

We were established in the early 1990s since when our annual trade event, the Museums + Heritage Show and related Awards, have gone from strength to strength.

In January 2013 we launched the online magazine, Museums + Heritage Advisor – a year-round, independent, resource for the cultural community connecting professionals working in museums and cultural visitor attractions and the suppliers and contractors who work for them.

You need to be a fast, independent thinker who has a hawk-like eye for detail and isn’t afraid to go it alone.

Be prepared to inject some humour into your copy, and identify the angles on stories no-one else spots – you have an opportunity to shape Advisor’s voice and to ensure it meets its objectives of connecting the cultural community, getting under the bonnet of museum, gallery and heritage projects of all shapes and sizes:  from block-buster exhibitions through to small local, volunteer-run, events and projects.

This job is not about reviewing exhibitions for the general public, it is very much about professional processes and outcomes – Advisor is a B2B online magazine.

We don’t expect a cultural expert, but we do need someone who is enthusiastic about the world of museums, galleries and heritage visitor attractions and who can get their head around new topics quickly.

You will need to feel comfortable interviewing big-hitters in the sector as well as suppliers and contractors, balancing both the editorial and commercial objectives of the site. Building your network within the sector will be key to success.

An ability to identify new commercial opportunities for Advisor in the form of content which will resonate with advertisers is absolutely essential. Demonstrating experience in this area is key and you will be expected to work closely with your Sales colleagues. Monetising Advisor is as important as the content of the site and should not be viewed as a necessary evil but instead as a gateway for new opportunity, sector intelligence and relevant content.

As Online Editor and Features Writer you will have responsibility for researching, commissioning and writing feature articles for Advisor as well outputting regular industry news.

You will also have a good eye for layout and pictures. You will also work closely with our events team to help inform the content of our programme of talks and webinars.

You will be writing and reporting daily posts including opinion pieces, reviews, sharp news reactions, real talk, and articles about new trends in the cultural sector.

Duties will include writing, editing and uploading online news and features and managing the content of Advisor.

The successful applicant will have some proper online journalism experience under their belt, be experienced at gathering and writing news and will have an understanding of what makes a great story. You’ll be a sharp writer with a meticulous eye for detail – if you don’t know the difference between “its” and “it’s” then this isn’t the job for you.

You’ll also have good technical knowledge: the ideal candidate will be able to write a headline that both ranks at the top of Google and sends social media users into a sharing frenzy. You'll also be an old hand at Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. A good grasp of the working of Word Press would be an advantage.

We're a small team with a very busy schedule so we need someone who's prepared to roll their sleeves up and get the job done. We’re a small entrepreneurial company, so there will be opportunities to get involved in new areas of business and help shape our future direction. As Advisor continues to grow so will this role with a potential to develop an editorial team.

You will report directly to the company’s managing director.

M and H Media Ltd is located in Worcester. Ideally the role will be based at our office but, for the right candidate, we would be prepared to discuss home working as an option. Salary negotiable depending on experience.
