Who we are

Compelo is a global organisation specialising in publishing and intelligence, with offices in 18 countries and 1,200 employees worldwide.

Applying the authority of our 75 world-leading B2B magazines and websites, Compelo educates, informs and influences businesses and communities across the globe.

We disseminate the knowledge and pioneering insight from our industry-leading analysts and editors across a diverse and growing readership in industries such as energy, banking, insurance, packaging and medical devices.

With a portfolio that includes print, digital, mobile, social and event channels, our content expertise – combined with a data-driven approach – ensures that our international audience of over 41 million is highly engaged and informed.

Our publications include the New Statesman, Computer Business Review, Press Gazette and Compelo.com.

What is Compelo.com?

This is a new business news website that takes in-depth industry news and trends, and translates these into stories that appeal to a wider audience.

Allied to this, we also have five subject-specific websites such as Compelo Energy and Compelo Banking, which focus on providing the latest news, features and analysis.

With plans to add more industry websites, we are now looking for a sub-editor to join the editorial team.

What’s the job?

The sub-editor will be responsible for checking and publishing online articles written by our team of young and graduate journalists, as well as our global content team.

With an aim to build a reputation as the go-to website for authoritative news and analysis in our industries, it is absolutely imperative that articles are clean, accurate, adhere to house style and feature engaging headlines – while offering real value to readers.

It is also important to follow SEO guidelines, such as using the correct keywords, to achieve top rankings on Google and grow traffic to our website.

Therefore, the sub-editor will play a crucial role in our growing team, ensuring that every single article we publish is written according to the highest possible standards.

They won’t be afraid to rewrite copy if necessary and will have a mentoring role by explaining any changes made to reporters and contributing ideas on how they can improve stories.

The ideal candidate will have experience of thorough proofreading, implementing house style, creating striking headlines and standfirsts, following SEO guidelines.

They will also have a good eye for using images to make a story come alive, and will ideally have experience using a content management system to upload material to the web.

The position is part of a busy editorial team based in central London, and will work closely with the group managing editor.

Compelo offers a fast-paced and enjoyable working environment and the opportunity to make a direct impact on the business.

Key responsibilities:

  • Proofreading, editing and uploading articles on a CMS
  • Writing engaging headlines that also contain keywords to make them search-friendly
  • Consistently achieving the highest editorial standards according to house style, grammar/spelling and SEO guidelines throughout copy
  • Ensuring all articles have striking imagery that is correctly captioned, as well as internal links
  • Working with young reporters to provide guidance on any changes made to their stories and helping them improve future articles

Experience / skills:

  • Previous sub-editing experience in a busy newsroom
  • Relevant digital experience using a CMS and SEO
