Job Details

Based in Beirut, the Middle East Correspondent is an experienced journalist and will be one of two correspondents covering the Middle East output both online and in print.

Key responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for providing the Telegraph's coverage of Middle East affairs, overseen by the foreign desk.
  • Write breaking news stories and provide relevant longer form pieces, including comment and features when required.
  • Focus on digital storytelling and the use of analytics and social media to develop and retain an online audience.
  • Work in close contact with both the foreign desk and other Middle East Correspondent.
  • React to the demands of a 24/7 online news environment.
  • A readiness to travel at short notice will be expected.


Essential skills required for the role:

  • Significant journalistic experience in the Middle East.
  • Significant experience of writing and editing for a newspaper or website.
  • Proven ability in filing clean copy to strict deadlines.
  • Interest in and knowledge of multimedia storytelling.
  • Experienced in both breaking news and working on longer pieces, projects, comments and features.
  • Ability to keep calm under pressure and work autonomously in a remote location.


Additional skills useful for the role:

  • Experience writing for a British newspaper or website.
  • Proficiency in Arabic.
