Title: Freelance Digital Entertainment Writer

Department : The Sun 

Reports to: US Digital Entertainment Editor

Purpose of role: To pitch, write and produce engaging stories for The Sun's US website from 5 pm to 1 am ET on weekdays.

Key responsibilities:

  • Identify news stories and subjects that will drive traffic
  • Turn around copy quickly and accurately, mindful of legal issues
  • Work with video and picture desks to create content efficiently
  • Produce posts in WordPress 


Key Skills and Experience:

  • A broad knowledge of tabloid subjects, including A-list celebrities and reality stars
  • An instinct for how to 'sell' a digital story to get maximum impact on The Sun's platforms and also on social media
  • Excellent, fast writing and basic subbing skills.
  • The ability to write in a concise and entertaining way in keeping with The Sun's style
  • Experience with WordPress production or similar CMS
  • Familiarity with best SEO practices 
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a constantly adapting working environment that is always striving to find new ways of telling news stories
  • A willingness to embrace ongoing digital challenges such as social media
  • The ability to keep calm under pressure
  • Ambition to progress and make the most of opportunities that present themselves
