Our newspapers reach more than 30 million people each week and include The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times. News UK is also home to Wireless, a leading UK and Irish media company boasting independent local and national radio stations.

Your Team:

The Sun Online is the biggest mobile news brand in the UK - and still growing! - with a young, talented, diverse team who publish the best coverage of news, sport, TV and showbiz, lifestyle and family value.

Your Role:

We’re looking for a Deputy Head of Sport SEO to join our hugely successful audience team that sits at the core of SunSport’s publishing operation.

The SEO team is constantly evolving, driving search traffic, growing new audiences, and aims to build engagement and loyalty with our readers.

You’ll take the lead on sport SEO, overseeing a team of three SEO editors and report into Sport’s Head of Audience.

This exciting, rewarding role working for UK’s biggest sports website will require you to work regular evenings (usually one week a month) and weekends (usually two a month) when key sporting events take place.

Day to day you will:

  • Take responsibility for sport SEO and drive, monitor and report on SEO success to ensure we hit our traffic targets by meeting the needs of our most loyal and engaged search users.
  • Represent the department at editorial conferences, report on key search trends and give specific recommendations about important search stories and events.
  • Ensure the editorial team and SEO journalists write about SEO priorities in the most effective way and manage their workflow.
  • Make sure we have clear, detailed SEO plans for known events based on data.
  • Use a range of analytics tools to report regularly on top pages/articles driving SEO traffic.
  • Make SEO recommendations to journalists on individual articles (EG headlines, graphics, off-platform images) - both proactively and in response to requests for help.
  • Monitor trending data for newsroom suggestions and pass to editorial desks.
  • Edit live articles to match SEO best practice.
  • Train, oversee and mentor the more junior SEO editors.

What we’re looking from you:

  • Essential: Editorial background with experience in a digital publishing environment and of reacting quickly to breaking news and changing search trends.
  • Essential: Good understanding of the technical principles behind editorial SEO.
  • Essential: Familiar with a range of SEO and analytics tools.
  • Essential: Experience driving SEO traffic around big events based on planning and analysis.
  • Desirable: Experience of working within Wordpress.
