University of Central Lancashire, Senior Internal Communications Officer

Employer
University of Central Lancashire
Location
Preston
Salary
£30,942 - £35,845
Closing date
25 Oct 2020

Here at the University of Central Lancashire, we offer the opportunities that create success. And while our brand may be new, we’ve been transforming lives since 1828; by inspiring people from all walks of life to reach their full potential and achieve things they never thought possible.

We’re a major local employer, an engine of the regional economy and a champion of innovation. We provide our students with an exceptional educational experience, produce high calibre graduates and life changing research that enhances the lives and prospects of communities across the North West, the UK and globally.

We are looking to strengthen our internal communications team and this important role will be instrumental in keeping our internal audiences (both colleagues and students) well informed, but also helping them feel engaged with the university, and proud to work or study here.

You will firstly be an accomplished writer, able to turn your hand to writing factually, corporately or creatively as and when needed, with the ability to inspire and engage different audiences across any medium or channel, from scripts and slides to blog posts and FAQs. You’ll champion our clear and down to earth tone of voice, writing for your audience in their language, without jargon or fuss.

You will need to be a strong stakeholder manager who is able to professionally and assertively advise colleagues at all levels when to communicate and when not to – including the right channels, tone and messaging to use. You will be able to turn your advice into clear and professional communications strategies, plans and timelines that you can present to your stakeholders.

You will be the voice of students and colleagues – listening to them, representing their needs, and creating the content that they need to know, and want to read. As well as celebrating institutional achievements, you will support the communications of major change projects and campaigns and have a continual focus on improving channels and processes.

In this varied role, you will need experience beyond internal communications. It is essential you have experience in PR and crisis communications, as you will be part of a paid on-call communications rota, in case of an emergency or incident out of hours that affects our colleagues or students. You will also have some experience of events, social media and editing intranet pages.

You will be part of a small team that works hard to get things done, helps others see ‘the bigger picture’ and punches well above their weight. We support and encourage each other, working as a team always. We are looking for someone with a good work ethic, who passionately loves communications; a team player who is great to work with.

Applicants need to meet all essential criteria on the person specification to be considered for interview. This position is usually based in Preston city centre, but due to the current situation working remotely will be required.
