ABOUT THE ROLE

As Sub-Editor you will play an integral role in producing quality content across two of Hearst’s iconic brands, Country Living and House Beautiful within our Homes division.

You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced multi-brand environment, and who feels as much at home subbing a feature on smallholding as they do about one about garden furniture.

As well as working on the core monthly issues, they will be required to regularly sub supplements, which sometimes can appear in the schedule at short notice.

You will assist the two Chief Sub-Editors and Deputy Chief Sub-Editor with fitting copy, writing headlines, standfirsts, captions and crossheads on layout, plus incorporating editors’ corrections.

They should also have a strong grasp of the workflow and be able to understand which pieces of work take priority, dependent on deadlines.

You will ensure copy and layouts go through the production system as efficiently and accurately as possible to meet these deadlines, editing to a high standard through each stage of the workflow system.

Having a keen eye for details is a must have as Sub-Editor, ensure all pages going to press are accurate and legally correct. You will have a huge love and enthusiasm for homes and interiors, as well as enjoying the satisfaction of finding a typo!

EXPERIENCE

You must have had the experience of working on a previous publication as a Sub-Editor, practical knowledge of InDesign, have great communication skills, the ability to prioritise effectively whilst working to deadlines and be a great problem solver. Knowledge of CMS is desirable.
