Job Details

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a highly-proficient, news-savvy video producer to join our Live Journalism team, creating original content from our widely-attended events, both virtual and eventually, in-person again. Live Journalism at the Journal connects our readers with newsmakers and ignites conversation across our communities online.

This is a period of growth and transformation for WSJ Live Journalism, as the team has moved from producing in-person conferences and festivals to, in the current environment, a full calendar of virtual events.

This role, working with the head of live journalism and special content and our video coverage producer, will help shape and execute our approach in this new digital medium.

We're looking for someone with skills in a variety of areas-including writing, reporting, video production and editing. You should also have deep knowledge of business, culture and politics and relationships that span across industries.

Because this is a small team, the producer role is a hands-on position that works alongside video and audio engineers, as well as producers. This is not a role for managers who prefer to sit in meetings.

Digital media experience and knowledge of audience development and digital storytelling is a plus. Our dream hire is passionate about online interviews, podcasts and TED-style talks, with strong ideas for how to successfully drive audience engagement with that content.

You will report to the Editor for Live Journalism, Kim Last. While you would start the job working from home, you will eventually be based in our New York office.

You Will:

  • Source, build, own and manage relationships with business, culture, social and political leaders to be featured at Journal gatherings
  • Execute on original event-adjacent video concepts from pitch to publication, working in collaboration with our Video Coverage Producer
  • Support clipping and news coverage from our virtual events, working through new paths to distribution across social media and on the Journal platform

You Have:

  • 5+ years experience working in video journalism or educational video
  • Expert in Adobe Premiere, and proficiency with After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Ability to design surprising formats and concepts for video that draw audience engagement
  • Comfortable working in new mediums and formats-with a willingness to experiment
  • A deep understanding of the online video landscape and proven ability to reach a large audience across social platforms

Click 'APPLY' and please submit a resume and a cover letter explaining how you would approach the role and including links to some of your best video work.
