The Daily Star / Daily Star Sunday, Page Designer
The Daily Star / Daily Star Sunday is looking to recruit a page designer to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, editing, image production and finishing page layouts and editorial pages.
Working closely with the editors, art directors, night editors, sub editors, picture editors, news and feature editors you will ensure that the production of the paper is polished, perfected and ready to go to print before the deadline.
It's a seven-day operation so you will be required to work weekends, especially Saturdays as that is the Daily Star Sunday's press day.
In this role you will plan pages, import copy and images to complement editorial content for our readers, so a creative eye is key.

- To design and edit news and features pages and spreads quickly and artistically. Design back of the book feature pages
- To source, edit and retouch pictures
- Designing pages in InDesign
- Editing pictures in Photoshop
- To collaborate in the newsroom and to engage and support other departments
- Check all pages, chase anything missing and make sure all images have been processed before they are sent to QAD
- To complete all tasks in accordance with IPSO and legal requirements.
- To complete all tasks within deadline
The Ideal Candidate
You will have previous experience working in a fast paced newsroom and will have worked in a similar role previously.
You will pride yourself on tackling all challenges and tasks with the highest level of professionalism, and you will thrive in a team environment.
You will be a skilled designer with a strong understanding of page layout and design, and will be confident with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. Knowledge of Illustrator is an advantage.
