About you:

Candidates for this role, which has an anticipated start date of February 2021, should have a track record of overseeing high-quality journalism and delivering exclusive stories.

We seek someone with strong experience of news editing, who can demonstrate they are able to take the decisions required to ensure the news needs of a title’s audience are met.

You should have excellent writing and grammatical skills, as well as being a stickler for accuracy and deadlines. Knowledge of the public sector and local government would be advantageous, as would be proficiency in data journalism.

About the role:

This role is Acting News Editor on a fixed-term maternity-cover contract, anticipated to be nine months. You will line-manage one senior reporter and be a key figure in LGC’s editorial team which also features an editor and features editor.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Prioritising to ensure that LGC’s small news team meets the needs of our audience
  • Editing, to ensure copy is accurate, concise, and mistake-free, hitting deadlines for both online and print content
  • Reporting on the fast-paced local government world
  • Developing and maintaining high level contacts within the sector, including by attending some events in London and around the UK
