In this role, you'll lead the nightly production of the Digital Edition, ensuring The Telegraph’s readers wake up every day to the best possible product.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead production of Digital Edition app, editing and enhancing the content provided in the Telegraph's print editions and optimising them for readers on tablet and mobile devices, and presenting this content to the highest standard.
  • Where breaking news merits it, to include content above and beyond that carried by print editions, and to use sound news judgment about the placement and emphasis given to these stories in an edition.
  • Co-ordinate the roles and responsibilities of team-members working on the edition. Manage workflow and ensure that each page of the edition is thoughtfully curated and error-free.
  • Define and enforce the standards of the Digital Edition app, ensuring headlines, captions and copy are accurate and representative of the Telegraph, and that best use is made of pictures, video, graphics and other assets. Liaise with print production, graphics, video and other departments to ensure all content is brilliantly presented for our digital audience, whatever device they read our app upon.
  • Act as a mentor to other members of the team, giving feedback and training where required to improve performance. To put in place systems, training and knowledge that enables everyone to succeed in their roles.
  • Offer accountability and immediate solutions if standards fall below expectations. Be on call at any time as Editorial lead should technical problems be encountered with the app or editorial production systems and see any such problems through until resolution.
  • Work with product development teams to design and implement improvements to both reader-facing and editorial production sides of our app. Offer ideas for improvements, and help to bring these to reality.
  • Organise rotas for the Digital Edition team and carry out other administrative responsibilities. (Please note: this role usually covers a 4:30pm - 1:00am shift time, on a rota basis including weekends - one on, one off.)

Essential skills required for the role

  • Experience of managing a team, and establishing a workflow.
  • Proven experience of editing stories on digital platforms.
  • Experience of working in news at national level.
  • Enthusiasm, imagination, a proactive approach and digital ideas are all essential.
  • Able to respond well under pressure, in a fast-paced environment and adhere to deadlines.
