Job Description:

Position Summary:As a Machinist/Mechanic you will provide immediate and efficient mechanical maintenance support to plant operations. You must show an ability to perform work safely, meet the needs of the operations, execute the maintenance program and upgrades to mechanical systems and comply with all safety codes. You must be able to identify, troubleshoot and repair problems in mechanical systems that occur in production equipment. Additionally, you must show initiative, work well in a team environment and possess excellent communication and time management skills.

This role is different from a traditional CNC-focused role and all the necessary training will be provided to suitable candidates on the equipment function and the repair/troubleshooting techniques.

Core Duties & Responsibilities:

In this role you will be expected to execute the following technical tasks:

Maintenance & Repair:
  • Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical systems to include disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and calibration.
  • Responsible for cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting parts, equipment, and machinery.
  • Ability to disassemble machinery and equipment, remove parts, make repairs, verify the adequacy of repairs, and reassemble equipment upon completion of inspections, testing or repairs.
  • Maintain and repair the operating condition of industrial production equipment, replace broken or malfunctioning components of equipment and cut and weld metal to repair parts, fabricate and assemble new parts.
  • Maintain records for parts/materials used, repairs and maintenance performed and request new parts and materials as necessary.
  • Perform repairs or modifications when blueprints and manufacturers specifications are unavailable or incomplete.

Testing & Inspection:
  • Examine parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear.
  • Observe and test the operation of machinery and equipment in order to diagnose malfunctions, using voltmeters and other testing devices.
  • Examine jobs to be done and determine scope and best way to accomplish the work.

  • Acts on information obtained from operators in order to diagnose equipment problems.

Ad Hoc:
  • Utilize safety and security practices and procedures following established rules and regulations and maintain a safe, clean, and secure work environment and ensure the shop is maintained in a safe and orderly fashion.
  • Study blueprints and manufacturers' manuals to determine correct installation and operation of machinery.
  • Apply a wide variety of methods, procedures & techniques to lay out, install, align, repair, overhaul, & maintain various types of machines encompassing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems & operation principles.
  • Suggest improvements and recommend equipment to all maintenance processes, including planning scheduling, preventive maintenance.
  • Perform other tasks and special assignments as requested by management.

In this role you will be expected to execute the following functional tasks:

Effective Communication:
  • Communicate with management, mechanics, and equipment operators to advise them if there are any potential mechanical hazards.
  • Keep the Foreman informed of all issues which may affect the operational capability of the area processes and equipment.
  • Keep the maintenance supervisor and/or manager properly informed on all abnormal or critical situations and seek advice on matters outside of your knowledge or authority.

Collaboration:
  • Work in a team to act on information obtained from operators, attend meetings, support continuous improvement initiatives, maintain close contact with the Foreman, crew, production supervisors and other equipment operators.
  • Seek assistance from the foreman on the work priority when confusion or more tasks than manpower exist.

Problem-solving:
  • Be able to identify, troubleshoot and isolate problems in the mechanical systems and use discretion to make decisions wherever necessary.

Time Management:
  • Execute the work schedule efficiently and make strategic decisions to ensure work is completed within the given time frame.
  • Execute the maintenance work schedule as provided by his/her supervisor.
