Mail+ is an ambitious project with a talented and dedicated editorial team and a start-up mind-set. Your focus will be on optimising that content and putting it in front of a new audience via search engines and using digital publishing best practice; working closely with the Mail+ Head of Digital to measure success and constant evolve the Mail+’s way of working to drive traffic and build engagement.

The role is accountable for:

  • Mail+'s day-to-day SEO publishing best practice
  • Indexing all unique brand content on the key organic platforms
  • Growing initial traffic through these sources
  • Editing live articles to match SEO best practice
  • Creating a passion and excitement for growing audiences and developing a deep understanding
  • Leading on next steps in SEO transformation of Mail+
  • Shaping journalists’ use of data to inform commissioning, scheduling and publishing strategy
  • Reporting to head of digital on performance and actionable insights
  • Reporting on key search trends and give specific recommendations about important search stories and events
  • For the SEO strategy of the site and drive, monitor and report on SEO success
  • Ensuring editors and journalists SEO their own work in the most effective way
  • Helping pre-plan for future articles and events by building out categories, topics, doing keyword research for upcoming trends
  • Using a range of analytics tools to report regularly on top pages/articles driving SEO traffic
  • Training and mentor the junior editors
     

Required Experience:

  • SEO Editor Experience
  • Self-driven, desire to learn from industry best practice and innovation 
  • Strong understanding of SEO, GA and Webmaster Tools
  • Experience of sub editing stories to be SEO
  • Experience in using data and technology to identify gaps, trends and best practice
  • Experience of Google Trends and other publishing tools
  • Strong understanding of what makes a page rank organically
  • Ability to build a template and best practice document
  • Understanding of custom events
