Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a Sr. UX Researcher to join the WSJ DXS (Digital Experience & Strategy) team. As a UX Researcher, you too will be a voice and advocate, empathizing with and thoroughly understanding goals, desires and preferences of target users. You'll help to define research methodologies and documentation of WSJ websites, apps, tools, newsletters and off platform experiences. You will collaborate with and work alongside product managers, engineers, editors, research partners, interactive graphics and business stakeholders. Ultimately, you will be helping shape the future of how we deliver news to our customers by measuring and improving our product through customer feedback.

Responsibilities and what you'll do
  • Work within the User Research, News Insights team, solving problems conceptually and using data, research, and analytics to validate and inform UX decisions for our digital products
  • Work closely with Product, Editorial, Engineering, and Design to define the end-to-end user experience and accessibility
  • Maintain best practices for UX research disciplines at WSJ
  • Define product-related user journeys, wireframes, information architecture, and other required UX documentation with sound and clearly communicated rationale
  • Improve and innovate on the most efficient ways to work by experimenting with new programs and documentation resources
  • Advocate for users in a fast-paced, corporate climate, fostering a shared understanding of the user-centric intersection between design, editorial, the business, and engineering
  • Be an ambassador for UX, promoting the role UX plays in helping deliver world class digital products internally and externally
  • Mentor and coach junior level UX Researchers
  • Facilitate design-thinking and discovery phase workshops
  • Look beyond News and Media sectors, monitoring all relevant technology and design trends, and building a structure for feeding these back into our Products
  • Outputs include: Competitive Audits, Schematics & Wireframes, Mind Maps & User Journeys, Interactive Prototypes, User Testing Questions & Surveys, User Personas, Functional Specs, Sitemaps, Research & Analysis Studies

Requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • 7+ years of UX Research experience for rich interactive, consumer, or enterprise web applications
  • Bachelor's Degree in HCI, Communication Design, BFA, or related experience preferred
  • Confident level of knowledge of industry standard digital product design tools (Sketch, Adobe CC, Omnigraffle and prototyping software such as InVision)
  • Expert knowledge of user experience research tools (such as UserZoom)
  • Solid grasp of latest Web and App user experience best practices
  • Understanding of user-centered design principles
  • Proven track record of driving impactful change through smart, data-driven UX implementation
