Job Details

Global Arbitration Review (GAR) is the world’s leading resource for practitioners of international arbitration – a method of dispute resolution that is used to settle some of the world’s most important cross-border commercial conflicts. We provide news, analysis, debate and specialist guides about an area of law that is underreported and often poorly understood by the popular press.

GAR reports on claims brought by investors against foreign governments, big-ticket commercial disputes between multinationals, and politically sensitive state-to-state disputes such as boundary conflicts. These cases take place outside national courts and often out of the public eye. We also report on the community of practitioners and arbitrators who handle these cases, tracking their professional moves.

We are looking for a News Reporter to join our experienced and close-knit team. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your journalism skills within an international organisation working on a global scale.

What would you be doing?
We are looking for intellectually curious individuals who can research and write news and other content to a high degree of accuracy. Relying on legal documents, regulatory filings and access to the best sources in the field, you will craft news stories in a style and tone that cuts through jargon and spin to deliver a satisfying read to an expert audience.

You will mainly be writing news stories to daily deadlines but will also be expected to assist on larger research projects and other signature annual surveys, all under the direction of the editor.

You will need to be highly literate and able to absorb complex legal decisions, find the news angle within them, and turn them into readable stories at short notice. You will also need to network with professional contacts and cultivate sources so as to obtain reliable information on under-the-radar and otherwise confidential disputes.

A background in law or professional writing experience is preferred. There will be opportunities for worldwide travel to report on events, including our own acclaimed conferences.

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum of a 2:1 degree
  • Postgraduate law or journalism degree
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in journalism or a related endeavour
  • An international outlook
  • Knowledge of international business, particularly cross-border disputes or disputes-prone industries
  • Experience writing for lawyers or about court matters (ideally)
  • Some knowledge of arbitration (preferred but not essential)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Natural curiosity
  • Strong writing skills
  • Willingness to learn

In return we can offer you a rewarding career with personal and professional development in addition to a competitive salary with an excellent benefits package that includes:

  • 25 days holiday
  • Private healthcare
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Season ticket loan
  • Gym membership
  • Life Assurance
  • Pension

We support a diverse workforce and inclusive workplace, and welcome applications from different backgrounds.

To apply, please send your CV, cover letter explaining why you are suitable for this role and writing samples via the link below. We look forward to receiving your application.
