The Scottish Sun is recruiting an Online News Editor on a 6 month temporary basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the news team of the nation's No1 digital and mobile brand as we move to a story-first company.

Responsibilities:

  • Helping to grow our audience and increase engagement at thescottishsun.co.uk 

  • Editing and polishing stories to ensure the highest standard of presentation to best maximise traffic

  • Leading reporters to ensure we are first with breaking news

  • Working with editorial colleagues across our increasingly integrated newsroom for fresh lines, particularly on large live stories

  • Having an instinct for how to ‘sell’ a digital story to get maximum impact on The Scottish Sun’s platforms and also on social media

  • Understanding how to recirculate readers within The Scottish Sun and keep them engaged with our content

  • Leading the team in a constantly adapting working environment that is always striving to find fresh ways to tell news stories

  • Working closely with the social media and SEO teams to ensure Scottish Sun content is given maximum exposure on all platforms 

  • Making using of analytics to determine content strategy

  • Maintaining an excellent relationship with news colleagues across News UK and Ireland

  • Ensuring all content is legally sound and adheres to  the PCC Code of Conduct and IPSO standards

Skills and experience:

  • Digital experience on a fast-paced national news platform

  • Experience in leading a high performance news team

  • Understands Scottish Sun DNA and how it translates to digital platforms

  • Expert in SEO and social media

  • Awareness of the digital media environment, trends and audience behaviours   

  • An expert understanding of legal issues, the PCC Code of Conduct and IPSO standards

  • Strong organisational, people and communication skills

  • Be flexible working across 7 days

  • Have the ability to manage a large team

  • Be a good motivator

  • Have great people management skills

  • Be able to work effectively and calmly under pressure

  • Have the ability to look beyond the day-to-day pressures with forward planning
