About you:
The successful candidate should have extensive political reporting and editing experience and a wealth of ideas for stories The Independent should be covering. A deep knowledge of and interest in current affairs is expected.

The successful candidate will be a team player with a deep understanding of online journalism.

The Role:
The Independent is looking for an experienced political correspondent to take on maternity cover from the summer. 

The applicant needs to have experience of working in the lobby, a wide network of political contacts and be able to write fast, accurate copy as well produce regular exclusive content. 

Skills and experience: 

  • Experience in getting scoops and exclusive interviews
  • Experience in news reporting in a busy newspaper section under time pressure 
  • Extremely good organisational skills
