Job Details

Global Data Review (GDR) writes about data. Its London- and Washington, DC-based team of journalists covers how companies gather and use data, and how lawmakers, regulators and litigants affect the corporate use of data.

Uniquely, GDR doesn’t only write about personal data: coverage of data protection/privacy, the GDPR and its international equivalent make up the bulk of our content, but we’re always on the lookout for stories about how companies collect and use non-personal data, and how they keep it proprietary.

We are looking for an accomplished writer to join us as a News Editor and help keep our readers informed.

We are looking for a reporter who is interested in taking a step up. This is an exciting opportunity to hone your journalism and leadership skills within an international organisation, working on one of the major global topics of the 21st century. There will be frequent opportunities for international travel when the covid-19 risk dissipates.

What you would be doing?

While experience of writing and reporting on tech, data or TMT issues would be preferable, this is not necessary. We’re looking for someone who can quickly develop their beat and generate great stories.

We are looking for intellectually curious individuals who can research, report and write daily news and features, accurately and with flair. You will be someone who pays close attention to detail and has a passion for informing others in a clear, impartial way. You will be comfortable using court documents, data, regulatory filings and source interviews to craft analytical and timely daily news stories, in a style and tone that cuts through jargon and spin to deliver accessible prose. You will also have ample opportunities to contribute to larger research projects, surveys and features. You will always be looking for new angles, and new ways to present information.

Besides that, you will regularly be responsible for editing and shaping GDR’s content. This is a unique opportunity to join a rapidly-growing news service and play a major role in its development – and to hone your own editing, management and leadership skills.

  • Someone who is already a strong line editor, or keen to rapidly develop that skillset
  • Flair for writing with clarity, precision and accuracy
  • International outlook
  • Ability to network, develop sources, and ask the right questions
  • A self-starting attitude in which you generate your own ideas and turn them into stories and other editorial projects
