Job Details

Debtwire ABS Europe is seeking a junior reporter to cover one of the most dynamic and intellectually challenging parts of the capital markets — securitisation.

Infamous for being at the heart of the global financial crisis in 2008, the constantly evolving sector remains a key source of finance for banks and increasingly non-banks, and is pivotal in helping banks manage their non-performing loans, which are set to balloon in the wake of the pandemic. Debtwire ABS covers this market, as well as commercial real estate finance and loan portfolio sales, with an eye for detail and a focus on credit issues, helping our readers win mandates, spot opportunities and avoid pitfalls.

While financial journalism experience would be an advantage, the role is suitable and open to those just starting out as a reporter, or those who have previously worked as analysts. Initially the role will involve establishing relationships with investment bank syndicate desks, originators and investors to provide coverage of new issues in the market and secondary trading, through cold calling, meetings and attending conferences (pandemic permitting).

The role provides an opportunity to get on board at a turning point for society and involves writing proprietary articles on the primary and secondary markets, as well as aggregating stock exchange announcements and market data releases. In time, the person will also write commentary for our weekly wraps and more analytical pieces looking at the credit performance of individual deals and asset classes.

Western European language skills are an advantage but not required, as are Excel proficiency and experience in financial modelling or credit analysis.
