Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a booking producer to secure newsmaking interviews for our portfolio of podcasts. From tech-industry leaders to startup founders, C-suite executives to entertainment-industry stars, this position spans all Wall Street Journal podcasts and plays a key role in helping to advance our audio journalism. Top candidates for this role are able to point to a track record of successfully booking high-profile guest interviews and bring a strong address book of contacts and industry relationships. Previous experience working in business journalism and on podcasts is preferred.

You will report to the Journal's deputy head of audio. While you will likely start the job working remotely, you will eventually be based in our New York office.

You will:
  • Book newsmaking interviews across WSJ's coverage areas
  • React quickly to breaking news, providing suggestions for guest interviews and securing interviews on deadline
  • Be proactive about proposing interviews and episode ideas, working ahead to ensure shows have a consistent pipeline of strong and timely interview opportunities
  • Manage different projects in various stages of development and production
  • Conduct pre-interviews and prepare written pre-interview briefs for producers and hosts
  • Serve as a point-of-contact between interviewees and show hosts and producers
  • Ensure that all journalistic and legal standards are followed
  • Be prepared to work late hours and weekends when news events require

You have:
  • At least five years of experience working in a newsroom
  • A strong contact list and deep relationships with industry executives and media representatives
  • A track record of securing newsmaking interviews, preferably in audio or video
  • Ability to assess and balance the needs of a department that spans daily news, single-subject narrative and interview-based shows
  • An understanding of and interest in The Wall Street Journal's core topic areas as well as strong editorial judgment and a broad knowledge of current events and news
