About you

The successful candidate should have extensive political editing experience and a wealth of ideas for stories The Evening Standard should be covering. 

A deep knowledge of and interest in current affairs is expected.
The successful candidate will be a team player with a deep understanding of online journalism.

The Role

The Evening Standard is looking for a brilliant, connected senior journalist to lead our Westminster team, shape the political agenda and help drive our digital expansion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Evening Standard’s renowned Lobby team covering the biggest political stories of the day from the heart of Westminster. 
  • To break agenda-setting political exclusives and insider stories and provide all the Westminster coverage that matters first online and in-print. 
  • To provide unrivalled analysis of the cut and thrust of politics and the key players in the corridors of power.
  • To be the face and voice of the Standard’s political coverage both on our audio and video products and on the broadcast round.
  • To have excellent skills in long form story telling for digital.

Skills and experience

  • Experience in producing a politics newsletter and daily column beneficial but not essential. 
  • Experience in producing a politics newsletter and daily column beneficial but not essential. 
  • Extremely good organisational skills
