Job Details

Workingdads.co.uk is looking for a dedicated web editor with strong digital writing experience to provide a range of engaging, interesting and relevant content for our dads’ audience and for employers. From writing and sourcing content to developing and managing relationships with key contributors, the role has lots of scope to grow and develop. From time to time you may also be asked to contribute relevant articles to sister sites workingmums.co.uk and workingwise.co.uk.

Workingdads.co.uk aims to meet the growing demand from dads for a better work- life balance. Poll after poll shows that dads, particularly younger dads, want to spend more time with their families, but they face a range of challenges from financial ones to difficulties in challenging stereotypes around flexible working. The Workingdads.co.uk site offers new flexible jobs to dads and is a place where they can keep informed about and debate issues relating to being a working dad. In addition, it provides advice and information about employment rights and career issues and access to employers who are pioneering support for dads in their organisations.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about issues relevant to working dads. Experience in writing for the web, a firm grounding in SEO principles and an interest in gender equality in the workplace and issues facing working parents are essential.

You will also have experience in:

  • Writing news and features, ideally on issues relating to HR, business and / or fatherhood
  • Creating optimised content to a professional standard
  • Writing accurate copy free from spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors
  • Confidently following a brief
  • Interviewing
  • Sourcing, briefing and managing contributors
  • WordPress

About the role

WM People Ltd has been at the forefront of progressive and inclusive ways of working since the launch of our first website, workingmums.co.uk, in 2006.  We launched workingdads.co.uk in January 2019 and workingwise.co.uk, a job and community site specially focused on older workers looking for flexibility and improved work-life balance and the employers who recognise the skills and years of experience they have to offer, in November 2019.

We offer an online space for employers and candidates to connect, communicate and engage. For employers we share and disseminate best-practice, offering organisations a way of sharing their progressive employment policies and advertising quality employment opportunities.  For jobseekers we provide access to flexible jobs as well as news, advice and inspiration. We also offer HR-related news and news on future of work developments.

Editorial plays a big part in WM People’s standing as a thought leader in the diversity and inclusion space. Over the years through our white papers, best-practice reports, day to day news stories, survey analysis and opinion pieces as well as through the articles we write for other publications we have built a reputation for accurate, expert information.

We are a friendly team of predominantly remote- working professionals that work closely and transparently with a shared passion for what we do. Reporting to the Managing Editor, the Workingdads.co.uk web editor will also work closely with the WM People marketing team.

This is a work from home position of 16 hours a week initially, with flexibility, however you will need to be based within easy commuting distance from central London for team meetings and events (Covid-19 restrictions permitting). While there is a requirement for attendance (currently by Zoom) at team meetings, there is considerable flexibility in how daily hours can be worked.

Please note: applications without covering letters detailing relevant experience will not be considered. We will only be able to respond to shortlisted candidates.
