Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a video journalist to join our New York-based video team.

Your primary focus in this role will be on editing and videography, turning around news videos on a fast production schedule.

Video journalists on this team produce topical and timely news-focused videos. Top candidates for this position will have a professional background in video journalism, demonstrate strong shooting and editing skills and have extensive experience with graphics and animation. You will juggle many tasks and bring challenging topics to life visually under regular deadline pressure. Please note, this is not an entry-level position and it is not a position producing documentaries. Because this is a role focused on producing timely news coverage, you need to show projects that you've done in just a few hours and stand out in the 24/7 information cycle.

You Will:
  • Edit on tight, news-making deadlines with the ability to frame and focus the story structure
  • Have expertise in the entire Adobe Suite with a main focus on Adobe Premiere and After Effects
  • Produce, shoot and edit, remotely, in the office and in the field
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to publication
  • Isolate best selections from interviews and field shoots, and edit clips
  • Ensure that all journalistic and legal standards are followed
  • Be able to work late hours and weekends as part of a regular rotation and as news developments may require
  • Coordinate with the internal publishing team and outside distributors

You Have:
  • At least three years' experience working in a daily news environment
  • Experience editing and producing compelling business, tech, politics and general news videos under tight deadline constraints
  • Professional competency editing and designing graphics using Adobe Creative Suite
  • Knowledge of current events, U.S. politics, economics, and a nose for news
  • Expertise using multiple camera setups, including the Sony FS5, FS7, C100 and C300
  • Adept with studio and field lighting setups

To apply, submit a resume and cover letter outlining how your skills and experience meet or exceed the key requirements, along with links to five videos that represent the type of work described.

You will report to the editorial director, video. You will start this job remotely but will eventually be based in our New York office.
