Deputy Editor – Modern Barber/Hairdressers Journal International 

We are looking for a talented Deputy Editor to join our successful B2B portfolio, which includes Hairdressers Journal International (HJ) and Modern Barber. These market-leading magazines/online channels sit in a portfolio of events and awards, where our websites and associated social media channels have the biggest online audience in the sector.

The successful applicant will be the face of the Modern Barber brand and work with the Editor to implement the editorial content strategy on Modern Barber and HJ to attract, engage and grow the audience across digital channels and print. The role requires a proactive team player who will work with the sales and marketing departments and immerse themselves in this fast-moving market.

Key activities 

  • Content delivery – write and post content to meet the needs of the market across all platforms  
  • Editorial integrity – ensure our digital and print offering retains the independent and authoritative content it is known for, and collaborate with the team to constantly challenge and improve this
  • Market integration – build relationships and gain the confidence of key contacts across the sector to ensure HJ/MB gets exclusive content and is first to market
  • Metrics – measure the effectiveness of our content with the metrics available against the relevant KPIs
  • Work with the wider editorial and sales team to offer solutions to meet the needs of our key accounts 
  • Events – work with the team to secure relevant participants and deliver compelling content that grows the participation in, and audiences at, our face-to-face awards and events 

Key skills required 

  • Proven experience in delivering digital content 
  • Ability to engage audiences on social media
  • Produce clean, concise, engaging and accurate content with excellent use of English language
  • News experience including the ability to identify and secure exclusives
  • Strong social skills and ability to build relationships
  • Commercial acumen
  • Flexibility to attend numerous industry events, including some evenings and weekends 
  • Whist industry knowledge is preferable, it is not a prerequisite
