JOB DESCRIPTION

At Hearst UK, there’s always more to the story. Join us as our Chief Sub Editor (Hearst Studio) to start the next chapter in your career.

We’re the UK’s leading premium publisher, and the people behind iconic media brands such as Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and Country Living. We’ve created a working environment that encourages everyone to pull together. We never stop looking for brave new ideas. We’ll always try to develop and improve, we trust each other to do our best, and we have fun as we build on our heritage to make history.

Made up of a team of editors, art directors, designers and video creatives, Hearst Studio is responsible for the creation of all branded content across Hearst UK’s digital and print portfolio. We also create global content for Hearst’s websites worldwide. Our mission is to create industry-leading branded content that works for our clients, for our Hearst brands and most importantly, for our audiences. We pride ourselves on our ability to think creatively, work collaboratively and spark conversation through our award-winning content.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The role of the Chief Sub Editor involves subbing copy to a high standard, meticulous fact-checking, making sure branded articles are presented in a style and tone fitting with the relevant brand, taking in client amends and writing copy to brief while maintaining Hearst’s top editorial standards. The Chief Sub Editor will be responsible for the workflow and delivery of all subbing duties within the team, as well as for the on-time delivery of all branded print pages. This role will involve working closely with multiple teams across Operations, so we’re looking for someone who is proactive, highly organised, and collaborative, as well as someone with extensive subbing experience on a consumer title.

As such a central role to the Hearst Studio team, it is vital that you have strong communication skills. Previous branded content experience is also preferred, and the ability to juggle numerous tasks, handle client feedback with a positive attitude and stay organised and in control is essential. You need to be a fast and highly-skilled sub editor with a first-class command of the English language, as well as a strong writer. Experience delivering successful commercial projects from pitch to publish, as well as creating and adapting content for multiple markets, is a sought-after plus.

WHAT WE OFFER

At Hearst UK, you can choose from a huge range of perks and benefits that can help you learn well, work well and live well including:

  • 25 days’ holiday (with the option to buy up to 5 additional holiday days)
  • Flexible working – we’re happy to discuss options!
  • Summer working hours
  • Discounted gym membership
  • Healthcare cash plan
  • Spend a charity day with your favourite good cause
  • Life assurance and pension scheme
  • Regular socials and more!

There’s more to your story than you imagine. And the next chapter begins right here.
