Montel News, a Norway-based independent newswire specialising in energy, seeks reporters based in Latin America to cover regional power, gas, and renewables markets. The role will be freelance initially, with room for growth as we assemble a team of experienced journalists on the continent.

Reporting will be mostly in Spanish and Portuguese, but those with written English competency will be favoured. 

The reporters will join a growing team of Montel journalists, already the leading energy news platform in Europe.

The position will suit news-driven reporters looking to take their journalism skills to the next level in a busy newswire environment with a global reach.

Montel’s journalists are some of the most experienced in energy markets, offering the right candidate a unique environment in which to thrive. 

The successful candidate will be able to write articles quickly under time pressure, generate exclusive and off-diary stories. You will need to be familiar with financial markets and comfortable with interviewing key figures from the energy industry or politics. The reporter will also be expected to cover political and regulatory developments.

Main skills required

• Excellent language skills, spoken and written Portuguese and Spanish, as well as a high-level of English competancy
• Familiarity with energy markets and financial journalism
• Self-motivation and a drive to pursue complex and engaging stories
• Some data journalism experience, or at the least an affinity with numbers, is a bonus as our news coverage is highly data driven

The terms of employment will depend on the candidates’ experience and the location of the position.
