Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a skilled editor in motion graphics and animation to work with its New York-based global video team. You will work with our award-winning video team to create deeply informative and engaging graphics and tell animation-led news and feature stories.

Exceptional technical skill, high creativity and experience working under tight deadlines are essential for this position. We're looking for someone who can add depth and context to a story while bringing challenging topics to life visually. Because this is a global news operation, you need to show successful executions of timely news projects that have been done in just a few hours, as well as videos produced with longer lead times.

You will report to the Journal's director of video content and programming. You likely will start this job remotely but eventually be based in our New York office.

You will:
  • Tell news, feature and enterprise stories in creative ways using video, motion graphics and animation
  • Translate complex stories into smart, informative video packages
  • Animate text, maps and charts
  • Produce high-quality videos on deadline, including for same-day pieces
  • Partner with reporters and editors across the newsroom to identify and produce timely video news pieces that are visually distinctive and of interest to the WSJ audience
  • Manage multiple projects in various stages of production
  • Ensure that all journalistic and legal standards are followed
  • Be able to work late hours and weekends both as part of a regular weekend rotation and as news developments may warrant

You have:
  • Three-to-five years' experience producing videos in a daily news environment, preferably at a global news organization
  • An ability to tell stories in creative ways using graphics and animation
  • A knowledge of current events, U.S. politics, economics, and a nose for news
  • A deep understanding of, and interest in, The Wall Street Journal's core topic areas
  • A professional-level understanding of Adobe Suite, with advanced skills in Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Exceptional hand-drawn and/or computer-assisted illustration skills
  • Strong video editing skills

To apply, please submit a cover letter clearly outlining how your skills and experience meet or exceed the key candidate requirements, along with links to five videos that represent the type of work described.
