Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a video journalist to produce clear and compelling explainer videos as part of its New York-based video team. Video journalists on this team are responsible for crafting insightful, informative and timely videos ranging in length from two to seven minutes. We're looking for someone with a professional background in journalism and deep experience reporting, conceptualizing and executing motion graphics, shooting live and stop-motion video, as well as shooting and editing skills. You should have a track record of creating under deadline constraints highly-visual, in-depth videos that make sense of complicated topics and developments, with a specific focus on the Journal's core coverage areas. Exceptional technical skills and creativity are essential for this role.

You will report to the Executive Producer of In-Depth Explanations. While you will likely start the job working remotely, you will eventually be based in our New York office.

You will:
  • Partner with reporters and editors across the newsroom to identify and produce timely video pieces
  • Pitch, develop, research and write stories
  • Tell stories in creative ways using high-quality video, graphics and props
  • Produce and shoot interviews in studio, and execute creative shoots
  • Edit videos using video, stills and motion graphics
  • Manage multiple projects in different stages of production
  • Ensure that all journalistic and legal standards are followed
  • Be able to work late hours and weekends both as part of a regular weekend rotation and as news developments may warrant

You have:
  • At least three years of experience producing informational videos, preferably in a daily news environment at a global news organization
  • An understanding of and an interest in The Wall Street Journal's core topic areas
  • Experience with multiple camera setups, including the Sony FS7, FS5, A7S and A7R
  • Skills using studio lighting setups
  • A professional-level understanding of Adobe Suite, with a high level of expertise in Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Strong communication skills

To apply, please submit a resume and cover letter clearly outlining how your skills and experience meet or exceed the key candidate requirements, along with links to five videos that represent the type of work described.
