Full-time sub-editor
Courier is on the hunt for an experienced, detail-oriented and disciplined full-time sub-editor to carry out subbing duties and ensure the accuracy of Courier’s various editorial products, under the supervision of our chief sub-editor.
The successful candidate will be formally trained in production journalism, a genius with tech and super confident in their skills in InDesign and Adobe Creative Suite.
What you’ll do:
- Sub-edit and fact-check Courier’s copy to house style, working quickly and accurately on a range of stories and in multiple formats – from print magazine to website, email and social media.
- Spot and eliminate errors and make improvements to copy.
- Work to tight deadlines.
- Liaise daily with editorial, digital and design teams.
- Work within a growing team and adapt quickly to changes.
What you’ll bring:
- Print subbing experience (3 years minimum).
- A strong eye for detail.
- Excellent written English and spoken communication skills.
- Ability to learn Courier’s house style and maintain quality.
- Superb skills in succinct rewriting, research and fact-checking.
- Good general knowledge of business.
- Flexibility, inquisitiveness and willingness to take direction.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines at once.
- Adaptability, a sense of humour and the ability to thrive in a fast-growing environment.
- Experience with US spelling would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of Mailchimp would be ideal.
- MUST be proficient in Adobe InDesign or InCopy.
