About Good Law Project
We are a small and young organisation but we have been expanding quickly, with increasingly prominent and successful legal cases: we had a primary role in overturning the prorogation of Parliament 21 months ago and have more recently been shining a bright light on the government’s award of PPE contracts and jobs to friends and associates. We raise funds directly from the public for our work in the public interest and operate on a not for profit basis. We are brave, honest, and decisive – those are Good Law Project’s values.
We are leading the way in holding those in power to account and setting the agenda through a series of high profile, successful legal challenges. But holding back creeping totalitarianism takes more than wins in Court. It also requires counter-narratives. Stories that can take Good Law Project’s messages to new audiences. And share hope.
We are looking for an Editorial Lead to join our busy and dynamic team to help us shape these messages.

- You will report to the Executive Director, Jo Maugham.

- Salary: £50,000 per annum with generous benefits, including enhanced pension contribution
- Hours: 35 hours per week, over 5 days with some flexibility on distribution of hours
- Contract type: fixed-term: 12 months in the first instance but which may well become a permanent role.
- We may be prepared to consider a self-employed consultancy agreement in certain circumstances. Location: Remote currently due to COVID-19; ultimately working in central London but with considerable flexibility.
Duties and key responsibilities:
The Editorial Lead will work alongside Good Law Project’s lawyers, researchers, and communications team to develop those narratives – and with its marketing and media functions to share them with existing and new audiences.
The role will include:
- Developing and delivering messages and content that speaks to Good Law Project’s core values.
- Maintaining and developing editorial processes to ensure the quality and tone of content produced across all channels.
- Writing and editing content for Good Law Project’s website, newsletters and crowdfunding pages, as well as articles and blogs for national news outlets.
- Commissioning pieces from elsewhere.
- Excellent writing skills, and experience in drafting both long-form and short-form content.
- Experience in narrative building in an organisational setting.
- Experience commissioning content that generates positive emotion.
- Experience in formulating and delivering a cross-platform content strategy.
- Experience in developing and maintaining brand identity and tone of voice across the range of an organisation’s publication channels.
- Experience working in a political environment and/or media organisation.
- Experience in managing a team
