Job Description:

The Machinist position involves the maintenance and repair of printing presses and related equipment.

The Machinist adheres to the following essential functions & key responsibilities:
  • Maintain 100% uptime of all machinery and equipment;
  • Minimize white waste, printed waste, and press downtime attributed to paster breaks, running breaks, and other mechanical failures;
  • Repair and perform preventive maintenance on all press units, including installation and adjustments of bearings, cylinders, blankets, ink rails, ink lines, rollers and changing oil in the units;
  • Tram the press rollers, perform maintenance on the folder, and adjust press tension;
  • Maintain and repair mailroom equipment, including maintenance and repair of the stackers, conveyors, pacers, plastic wrappers, strappers, and boom loaders;
  • Participate in the plant's Safety Program, including periodic safety inspections, conducting safety drills, completing required safety training courses, performing periodic lockout / tagout inspections, and ensuring the plant is in compliance with all safety requirements and guidelines;
  • Participate in Quality Assurance inspections and continuously provide recommendations for process improvements throughout the plant; and
  • Participate in the management and control of equipment spares and inventory.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Use a caliper for taking precise measurements;
  • Read blueprints;
  • Perform arc welding and oxy-acetylene cutting;
  • operate a lathe, drill press, and variety of hand and power tools;
  • Receive training and be required to operate a forklift on occasion;
  • Work on projects alone or with a team to achieve project objectives; and
  • Adapt to additional duties which may be assigned from time to time and may require the Machinist to step into a different role in the plant.

Additional Skills:
  • A working knowledge of PLC logic and operations is a plus.

Position Requirements:

This position requires standing, lifting, bending and physical exertion throughout the shift.
