The Wall Street Journal is looking for a dynamic and experienced SEO editor to play an essential part in shaping our breaking news and trending news strategy. You must be able to employ superb news judgment and demonstrate a strong understanding of SEO and social media trends. Evergreen and Q&A-style content should be part of your wheelhouse but you should also be familiar with breaking news practices.
You will play a key part in the growth and development of the SEO at The Wall Street Journal, working with bureaus across the organization, most often the new Speed & Trending Desk. A strong command of newsroom workflows and proficiency with digital publishing tools are crucial for success.
You will report to the Senior SEO Editor. While you will likely start the job working remotely, you will eventually be based in our London office.
You will:
- Work closely with WSJ's editorial team to drive audience growth and increased engagement through SEO
- Use keyword research, social and SEO tools to work directly with editors and reporters on content optimization and ideation
- Monitor the performance of articles using real-time analytics tools and make strategic SEO decisions based on that data and real-time Google Rankings
- Help identify breaking news and search trends
- Contribute to an SEO calendar with topics, content ideas, and other strategic notes
- Edit and optimize news content to ensure they are ranking for relevant keywords
You have:
- At least 1-3 years of experience in growing SEO organically within a newsroom environment
- Ability to perform keyword and trend research to identify trending and breaking news
- Proven experience in developing and contributing to search-oriented content strategy
- Familiarity with the Journal's brand, content offering, and digital/print platforms
- Good working knowledge of analytics tools such as Adobe Analytics and Google Search Console.
