Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a dynamic and experienced SEO editor with superb news judgment and a strong understanding of SEO and social media trends to join our Newsroom SEO team. You will play an essential part in shaping our breaking news and trending news strategy. Evergreen and Q&A-style content should be part of your wheelhouse but you should also be familiar with breaking news practices.

You will be a key player in the growth and development of the SEO team at The Wall Street Journal, working with bureaus across the organization, most often the new Speed & Trending Desk. A strong command of newsroom workflows and proficiency with digital publishing tools are crucial for success.

The position will require you to work on Saturdays and Sundays, but is structured as a four-day workweek rather than five. You will report to the Senior SEO Editor. While you will likely start the job working remotely, you will eventually be based in our New York office.

You will:
  • Work closely with WSJ's editorial team to drive audience growth and increased engagement through SEO
  • Use keyword research, social and SEO tools to work directly with editors and reporters on content optimization and ideation
  • Monitor the performance of articles using real-time analytics tools and make strategic SEO decisions based on that data and real-time Google Rankings
  • Help identify breaking news and search trends
  • Contribute to an SEO calendar with topics, content ideas, and other strategic notes
  • Edit and optimize news content to ensure they are ranking for relevant keywords

You have:
  • At least 1-3 years of experience in growing SEO organically within a newsroom environment
  • Ability to perform keyword and trend research to identify trending and breaking news
  • Proven experience in developing and contributing to search-oriented content strategy.
  • Familiarity with the Journal's brand, content offering, and various digital/print platforms.
  • Good working knowledge of analytics tools such as Adobe Analytics and Google Search Console.

To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter explaining how you would approach the job.
