Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a few talented aspiring journalists with the language skills, persistence and enthusiasm to help us cover China, the world's second largest economy and fast-rising global power.

Your primary job will be helping reporters across our global China bureau cover the most important developments in business, finance, economics and general news. You will find people and conduct interviews, hunt for and dive into authoritative documents and disclosures, and contribute context that aids our understanding of this vast and important country. You will also handle news stories and other writing assignments. This is a crucial function underpinning much of our coverage, and we will count on your diligence, enterprise and accuracy.

The post also offers room for growth and opportunities to pursue a wide range of stories within the bounds of your abilities and ambitions, provided you have completed your other tasks. You will be coached and mentored, encouraged to develop sources and work on features, learning from more experienced journalists as you go.

You must be fluent in Chinese and able to write clearly in English. You will need a quick mind, thick skin, a temperament for teamwork, and the determination to dig past surface information to get to the facts.

A key qualification for the job is deep familiarity with the subtleties of life in China, so extensive experience on the order of years or even decades on the mainland is essential.
