Graduate designer

The Times is looking for a passionate graduate designer to join our creative and dynamic design team. 

You will work across print and digital platforms, developing skills in layout and animation. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn in a fast-paced creative environment.

Candidates must have a degree-level design qualification and a portfolio that can be presented at interview. You must be interested in current affairs and culture, and be able to work as part of a team. Experience in illustration, animation and info graphics is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Pitching creative ideas and providing inspiration to senior editors, coming up with alternative ideas where appropriate 

• Designing and laying out pages and artwork to tight deadlines

• Able to translate and execute a design brief successfully and to deadline

• Following current affairs and culture and understanding the paper’s perspective 

• Managing good working relationships with editors, the design team and production colleagues

• Be at the forefront of emerging technologies and understand their relevance 

• Work a variety of shifts across six days, including occasional evenings and weekends

Skills and experience

• Design qualification at degree level or equivalent

• Ability to articulate the importance of design and graphics 

• Varied portfolio that demonstrates adaptability across different design disciplines

• Insight into changing consumer behaviour and the ability to identify future key design trends 

• Proficient in industry standard design applications, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator

• Well-developed interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate succinctly and effectively

• Unflappable and reliable under pressure
