The Barcelona bureau of Dow Jones Newswires seeks an experienced financial journalist as a lead reporter covering a key sector of European equities and supporting the Barcelona Editor in charge of the newsroom.
This is a hybrid role with a focus on reporting and writing, with some administrative and scheduling responsibilities.
The person in the role will help set priorities and assign stories to other team members on the desk responsible for European corporate coverage across subjects such as earnings, management changes, strategy announcements and other news disclosed via press releases, regulatory filings or both. The team also reports on stocks and other breaking news related to business, finance and economics across Europe.
Candidates for this position must have excellent news judgement, solid writing abilities and market knowledge. They must appreciate the need for speedy news delivery. Experience covering corporate news, including the ability to quickly decipher earnings statements and balance sheets, is critical. Previous reporting or editing experience in a breaking news environment is essential.
Experience leading a team would be a plus, as would managing and organizing workflow.
-Responsible for thorough and timely coverage of a major European corporate sector for a professional audience
-Help set daily news priorities
-Ensure the right measure of coverage, e.g. with headlines, market comments, stories, updates, previews, etc.
-Help to plan news coverage, staff scheduling, training new staff
-Coordinate with colleagues in and outside the Barcelona bureau, including the editing desk and local-language partners
-Uphold Dow Jones standards and ethics
-Excellent news judgement
-Knowledge of the European corporate landscape
-Solid writing and editing skills
-Good organizational abilities
-Ability to effectively interact with other bureaus
-Understanding of Newswires' mission
-An efficient and quality-focused work ethic and a sense of urgency on breaking news
-Fluent in at least one European language
