Deputy audience reach editor

The audience reach team works across The Times and The Sunday Times newsrooms to broadcast our journalism to the widest possible audience. The work involves promoting content on search, social media as well as publishing on key third-party platforms, including Apple News + and Google Showcase. The deputy audience reach editor is responsible for supporting the head of audience reach with the day-to-day running of the team across seven days and for ensuring the delivery of editorial projects for both newsrooms.
 

The successful candidate will have a strong working knowledge of search, social media and the wider digital media landscape. The ideal candidate will have a sharp news sense and know how to tailor a story for different platforms. The candidate will have a keen sense of what makes The Times & The Sunday Times distinctive, and will have the skills to bring our journalism to life on social networks. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Producing regular reports for a variety of sections

  • Defining what data sets can inform day-to-day editorial commissioning  

  • Helping to define a social media strategy for The Times & The Sunday Times

  • Developing a skilled team spanning search, social, platforms
     

Skills and experience

  • Able to retrieve and interpret data, then effectively communicate relevant insights 

  • Excellent knowledge of editorial and technical SEO and social media platforms 

  • Confident and concise communication, able to build strong relationships with colleagues across both newsrooms

  • Able to influence and persuade colleagues

  • A proven track-record of building communities and audiences online 

  • Able to work under pressure and can work to tight deadlines while maintaining high standards

  • Up-to-date with the latest media trends

The Times and The Sunday Times represent a combined 400 years of covering news and providing comment and analysis in the UK and the world.

We are authoritative, credible, responsible, trusted and a part of the nation’s cultural heritage.

This role will join our cross-title digital strategy team. The team is charged with finding and telling stories on our digital platforms in the most appropriate formats and empowering the newsroom to present stories in new and innovative ways.
