Newsletters and podcasts editor 

The Times and The Sunday Times newsletters and podcasts editor will be responsible for commissioning, editing and publishing newsletters from The Times and The Sunday Times. They are also responsible for working with Wireless on the commissioning of our podcasts.

 

Responsibilities

  • Commission, edit and publish newsletters and podcasts, working with colleagues on The Times and The Sunday Times and Wireless radio group

  • Ensure the newsletters produced are inline with Times news values and are distinctive and differentiated from our competitors

  • Bring innovation to our newsletters, with a keen eye on changes to the media landscape

  • Work with department heads on how to maximise the effectiveness of their newsletters, including content ideas, when they should be sent, how long they should be and who should be the author of each newsletter

  • Overall responsibility for editing the newsletter before it is published, ensuring that it meets editorial standards

  • Lead the newsroom in understanding audience data and how it should inform commissioning

  • Measure the engagement of the newsletters and recommend editorial improvements

  • Work closely with the Wireless group to define our podcast strategy and output

  • Explore integration between newsletters and podcasts


 

Skills and experience

  • Working for a national newspaper or media website as a senior commissioning editor or senior sub-editor 

  • Experience establishing strong working relationships and building credibility with senior managers, influencing editorial colleagues, leading thinking and generating ideas

  • Demonstrable interest in news, current affairs, lifestyle and sport

  • An ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and with rigorous accuracy

  • Strong understanding of how audience data supports commissioning and how to promote a story on social media and through search engines

  • Able to use social media platforms to engage current and new audiences for The Times and The Sunday Times

  • Excellent communication skills, can communicate effectively with all levels of seniority across the newsrooms

  • Displays an enthusiastic, can-do, flexible attitude, especially when facing challenges

  • Deeply interested in shifts in the media landscape - and bringing new ideas to our newsrooms

The Times and The Sunday Times represent a combined 400 years of covering news and providing comment and analysis in the UK and the world.

We are authoritative, credible, responsible, trusted and a part of the nation’s cultural heritage.

This role will join our cross-title digital strategy team. The team is charged with finding and telling stories on our digital platforms in the most appropriate formats and empowering the newsroom to present stories in new and innovative ways.
