Deputy head of digital

The Times and The Sunday Times are looking for a deputy head of digital to help with the digital transformation of two of the most important media brands in the English language. 

You will be responsible for revamping how readers discover and experience our journalism, ensuring we have the highest quality digital publishing tools and managing a team of digital specialists with a broad range of skills and responsibilities. You will play a key role in how we use digital skills - graphics, video, photography, social media - to further elevate Times journalism.

 

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the newsroom to accelerate digital-first publishing, focused on world-class journalism: writing, editing, visuals as well as how we publish across digital platforms, including social media, SEO and our own platforms.  

  • Helping to run a team with a wide range of digital skills and responsibilities 

  • Furthering the newsroom’s use of insights and data to inform commissioning

  • Deputising for the head of digital when required  

  • Representing the team and the titles at conferences, and helping to raise standards every day

  • Point of contact for newsroom publishing systems 

 

Skills and experience

  • An excellent understanding of the modern media landscape 

  • 5+ years working in a newsroom or similar editorial environment

  • Time spent working in product development or a role with product adjacent responsibilities

  • Demonstrable experience defining and executing a strategy to achieve a clearly defined goal

  • Management and coaching of high-performing teams 

  • Experience leading and working in cross functional teams

  • Knowledge of using metrics and analytics in newsrooms to help inform decision making  

  • Growth mindset

The Times and The Sunday Times represent a combined 400 years of covering news and providing comment and analysis in the UK and the world.

We are authoritative, credible, responsible, trusted and a part of the nation’s cultural heritage.

This role will join our cross-title digital strategy team. The team is charged with finding and telling stories on our digital platforms in the most appropriate formats and empowering the newsroom to present stories in new and innovative ways.
