Deputy Engagement Editor
Job summary
The deputy engagement editor is responsible for exploring and delivering new ways of engaging audiences with our journalism. Working with colleagues in the newsrooms of The Times and The Sunday Times you will develop content, events and products that engage existing and new audiences, including women and people under 35.
The successful candidate will be a journalist who understands compelling and cutting edge ways that enliven our journalism, has data analysis, project management and strong people management skills.
Responsibilities

Work with the product development team to incorporate emerging forms of reader interaction, such as article shares, reader commentary, digital events

Interpret editorial data and feed this directly to the editors to inform commissioning to boost website engagement

Target and tailor data towards engaging key audiences, such as women and younger readers

Work with both newsdesks to forward plan for editorial projects, digital coverage and events

Liaise with Times+ teams and editors to coordinate newsdesk events for both titles, including events targeted at both under 45 and female readers

Mentor people in the team to help them to develop projects and stories to pitch, and to develop their skills

Help to improve data literacy in the newsroom through training and collaboration with reporters

Journalist with strong news judgment

Curious about media industry innovation in storytelling and brings best practices to the Times

Demonstrable experience of product development for a news website

Ability to pull editorial insights from data, understanding various platform-specific metrics to inform decisions

Highly organised, able to manage projects

Able to collaborate with others and work well in groups

Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

This role will join our cross-title digital strategy team. The team is charged with finding and telling stories on our digital platforms in the most appropriate formats and empowering the newsroom to present stories in new and innovative ways.
