Our newspapers reach more than 30 million people each week and include The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times. News UK is also home to Wireless, a leading UK and Irish media company boasting independent local and national radio stations.

The Team: The Sun is Britain’s biggest biggest-selling newspaper and largest mobile news brand - and still growing - with a talented, diverse team who publish the best news, sport, showbiz and lifestyle coverage in the business.

Your Role: We are looking for a new Assistant News Editor to help grow our award-winning operation. This is a rare opportunity for the right applicant to join The Sun’s news desk.

Day to day:

  • To help develop The Sun Online's off diary operation and improve the quality and quantity of our original content

  • To manage and run reporters on the ground going after the biggest stories of the day, as well as seeing tips through to finished stories

  • To liaise with agencies and freelancers to make sure our coverage stays ahead of the competition

  • To help train and develop our talented young reporters and get the most out of them

  • To assist the news editor with management of the team

  • To lead the news operation as and when required, including at nights and weekends when necessary

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Have a minimum of two years experience working at national newsdesk level with a track record of delivering exclusives

  • Must have experience of running multiple reporters on the ground at once

  • Must have knowledge of and experience in recognised search tools

  • Must have experience of leading news operations on occasion

  • Solid contacts with agencies and freelancers around the UK and internationally

  • Must have flair and an ability to spot the hidden potential in stories

  • Unflappable under pressure and delivers work at a consistently high standard

  • Positive attitude and good team player

  • Can demonstrate an understanding of the The Sun brand, both print and digital

  • Flexibility to work shift patterns across 7 days
