Who we are:
SWNS proudly brings the heartbeat of Britain to life for our biggest news brands. Every day, hundreds of our stories, images and videos are published and broadcast across the national media.

How do we do it? With a team of dedicated journalists, photographers, videographers and editors based across the UK who are passionate about real, original journalism.

We combine traditional reporting with the best content-gathering techniques for digital and social media to produce a news wire that drives millions of views every day.

It’s all in there - breaking news, court cases, amazing human interest stories, consumer issues, health studies, scientific breakthroughs, stunning imagery and viral videos.

Our clients are the biggest news publishers in the world – from the Sun, Mirror and Daily Mail to the Times, Telegraph and New York Post.

Who we’re looking for:
We're after a new generation of reporters who will learn how to unearth and write the most-talked about stories.

If re-writing press releases and ‘aggregating’ material fills you with dread, then this could be the job for you.

Our reporters get out from behind their desks, speaking to real people face-to-face and on the phone. They also utilise digital tools and social media to source and verify stories.

You won't be doing it alone. You'll be part of one of the most experienced news gathering operations in the UK, surrounded by colleagues who love their jobs.

We want people who are enthusiastic about popular media content, know what makes a great story or viral, and are keen to get a broad range of experience in modern journalism.

In return you will get some of the best on-the-job training in the business, see your work published in the biggest titles, and give yourself the best career prospects possible.

The roles:
We have a number of roles available across all levels of experience and, as a flexible employer, will consider applications from people based anywhere in the UK. However, we have a particular need for people based in Yorkshire/northern England and the South West.

Successful candidates will have the flexibility of working from home or one of our newsrooms dotted around the UK.

An NCTJ qualification or similar is preferable, as is a driving licence and car.

However, enthusiasm and raw talent are the most important things so we will consider applications from less-qualified candidates who are keen to learn.

You will be involved in finding, researching and writing national news stories under the guidance or our experienced news editors. We also carry out commissioned work for national titles.

We work with syndication partners across the UK regions and you will be expected to respond quickly to emerging stories in local titles, and generate your own ideas and story leads.

You will be writing for news outlets but should have an awareness of what makes a good feature story for magazines, TV and our own growing social channels.

All applicants will ideally have:

  • NCTJ or similar qualification preferred (but enthusiastic self-starters can apply)
  • Shorthand to 100 wpm+ (or a willingness to learn this on the job)
  • Full driving licence preferable
  • News writing experience and the ability to turn around quick, accurate copy
  • Be confident and personable with the ability to quickly strike a rapport with people, both in person and on the phone
  • Have a sharp eye for a story and the competitive drive to develop them

Salary and application:
Salary will depend on upon experience but SWNS is proud to be a National Living Wage employer. Please click 'APPLY NOW' with a CV and cover letter.
