UK Freelance Reporters for The Epoch Times

Join one of the fastest-growing newspapers in the world, as we take exciting new steps to build our UK readership and coverage.

The Epoch Times is already a household name in America, where in just a few years it has grown exponentially online and as a printed broadsheet newspaper—confounding the long-standing industry decline.

But as an international media company, already in 21 languages in 33 countries, we have always had wider goals.

We are now expanding our model of old-school journalism—enshrined in our guiding principles of Truth and Tradition—more widely into the English-speaking world.

In the UK we are looking for freelance journalists who share our love for honest, independent reporting that is free of narratives and political ideologies, committed to serving the readers.

The candidates should:

  • Have at least four years of full-time professional experience as a reporter.
  • Be able to produce well-written, accurate stories to a deadline.
  • Be NCJT-qualified or equivalent.
  • Be able to uphold the company’s values of accurate and honest reporting.
  • Be tuned into UK current affairs in general or into specific news beats.

We will consider a variety of freelance arrangements, from pitching and writing of more in-depth features and enterprise stories through to regular contributions of more daily news pieces as assigned.

Specifically, we are looking for the following contributions:

  • Short, timely daily news articles, as assigned.
  • Longer, timely news articles as assigned, with original interviews.
  • In-depth articles as assigned, on topical issues, with original interviews.
  • News story pitches, especially more in-depth or lengthy pieces, followed up by original coverage.

Application

To apply please send your CV, two references, a cover letter, and samples of your work that demonstrate excellence in writing balanced, accurate news stories with a high standard of spelling, grammar, and style.

Location

At the moment, we can only cater for remote-working. In general, we would expect most of our current needs to be met through desk-reporting. However, on-the-ground reporting is a possibility.

Contract/Freelance Agreement

Specifics of contracts and arrangements will be discussed after application. We are happy to consider a variety of arrangements, including more ad-hoc contributions from journalists already following particular beats. If you think you may have something to offer The Epoch Times that doesn’t appear to be covered in the above, please do get in touch.

The Epoch Times was founded in the United States in the year 2000 in response to communist repression and censorship in China. Our founders, Chinese-Americans who themselves had fled communism, sought to create an independent media to bring the world uncensored and truthful information.
