Yahoo News UK is looking for an outstanding journalist to join its growing editorial team.
 
The role will cover breaking news stories as they happen with the right candidate able to pick up everything from politics and crime to terror attacks and major disasters. 
 
In this role, you will be expected to make instant judgements on how to approach major news stories as they unfold in real time, spotting the strongest news angles that resonate with our audience and ensuring our journalism remains rooted in fact at all times.
 
The ideal candidate will have a real passion for news; be able to write quickly and accurately; have plenty of energy; and possess strong organisational skills that mean you will be the first to be alerted to a piece of breaking news and are ready to react instantly.
 
Experience of working in online journalism and being comfortable working with video and audience teams will be critical to this role.
 
Yahoo globally has 900 million monthly users and a footprint in multiple countries and this opportunity is a fantastic chance for you to showcase your talent. 
 
The role is a 12-month contract with a competitive salary. Remote working will be considered, although some presence in our central London offices will be needed when required.

  • You will work with the UK news team to cover breaking news as it happens
  • Be part of the content strategy that looks at how Yahoo News UK can stand out and be unique andinteresting
  • Always look to be innovative and challenge convention in everything you do
  • Use analytics/live data to inform editorial decision-making and ensure we reach our audience aseffectively as possible
  • Collaborate with our video/audio team to tell stories in a unique and engaging way
  • Collaborate with our social, SEO and distribution experts to ensure we’re always striving to reachnew audiences
  • This role may include weekend hours.

    
 
A bit more information about you


You will:
    

  • Have substantial experience in journalism and digital media. 
  • Have experience interviewing, sourcing stories and writing for digital publications with a soundunderstanding of media law
  • Be able to work flexible hours in order to meet the demands of a digital newsroom
  • Be technically proficient on CMS
  • Be inclusive and collaborative
  • Have excellent communication skills at all levels, and an ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams

National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) qualification is preferred though a degree(or higher) that is journalism-related will also be considered
