Job Description:

The Chief Data Officer is responsible for developing and governing the collection, management and storage of data across the organization and analyzing and deriving insights from data to inform business strategy and value in order to drive business decisions, growth and new products. This role will evolve the data platform and develop extended data capabilities including machine learning, applied AI, data science, data engineering, BI, and strategic analytics to drive continuous business growth. In addition, the Chief Data Officer will provide vision and strategy for data initiatives across the organization and will be responsible for setting enterprise data strategy, governance, standards and quality in collaboration with data stakeholders from across the organization.

Responsibility:
  • Lead the data team to deliver data and strategic data science approaches that help optimize Dow Jones' products, customer experience and guide ongoing product and business decisions to strengthen the company's competitive edge.
  • Partner with business and key stakeholders to evaluate and implement the tools and processes necessary to aggressively drive our data needs for both new and existing products and services and track business KPIs and product OKRs
  • Lead the buildup of customer 360 to develop a holistic view on customer interaction with Dow Jones brands for better customer experience and product development
  • Guide the establishment of high-performance, scalable, and reliable data platform and machine learning infrastructure that enable content and experience personalization to enhance relevance and value of our product
  • Drive the development of machine learning models to drive personalization, traffic conversion, customer churn prevention, and increased customer LTV
  • Establish and enhance an experimentation platform and provide analytical support on experiment design and metrics innovation
  • Define a long-term data strategy that enables sophisticated decision-making across business; establish best practices of data governance and management
  • Foster a collaborative, enterprise digital transformation innovation across the organization focusing on cost reduction and revenue generation
  • Lead and develop a high-performing, cross-functional team in support of strategic and growth initiatives.
  • Support analytics and reporting on products, customers, operations, and markets
  • Implement, monitor and govern enterprise data privacy policies and complying with data protection regulations
  • Establish data standards for analytical data over business terms, business definitions, enterprise code sets, data elements and business rules
  • Drive issues to resolution. Inspire teams to over-achieve in a fast-paced, distributed environment.
  • Enable data usability, availability and efficiency to create product strategies to address market needs and translate into a product roadmap.
  • Define business and investment cases for new products.
  • Work collaboratively across the business and with an experienced leadership team to lead short and long range data planning processes.
  • Coach the organization around best practices for data collection, transformation, quality testing and storage; oversee development of data certification techniques
  • Grow a diverse, inclusive, multidisciplinary, and high performing data team through recruiting and mentorship; promote a growth-mindset for all team members
  • Coach and mentor the next generation of Dow Jones data leaders

Preferred Qualifications :
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about data products, platforms, and the evolving landscape.
  • Intellectually curious out-of-the-box thinker who is passionate about brainstorming innovative ways to use data to solve business problems
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in data management, product development, and/or data governance.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent field. Bachelor's degree in an analytical field such as statistics, operations research, economics, computer science preferred (graduate degree is a plus).
  • Experience with extracting and aggregating data from large data sets using SQL, Hive or other tools
  • Experience in understanding and analyzing data using statistical software (e.g., Python, SAS, R, Stata or related technology)
  • Technical background in data with deep understanding of issues in multiple areas such as data acquisition and processing, data management, distributed processing, and high availability is required. Experience in statistics, data mining, machine learning and operational excellence of production systems is a plus.
  • Strong at technical goal setting for a project with actionable success metrics. Good knowledge and experience on measuring a service from a user experience angle.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, capable of building enthusiastic support for new ideas and converting resistance to endorsement with robust collaboration with various stakeholders, leaders and agile team(s) across the organization.
  • Experience in attracting, developing and mentoring diverse talent
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate effectively across the full spectrum of internal stakeholders and customers.
