Job Details

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking to hire an experienced editor to help oversee coverage of the U.S. energy industry, reporting to the Global Energy and Climate Editor. This role would be based in Houston, and you would primarily work with a team of reporters who cover U.S. oil and gas, refining, utilities and electrification. The role of fracking and shale in global oil output and the saga of U.S. shale players would be a mainstay of coverage, as would efforts by the two biggest U.S. energy companies, Exxon and Chevron, to remake themselves. You would be expected to lead reporters to dominate company coverage, including deal-making, and to help deliver scoops and sharp news stories in addition to enterprise. The job is based in Houston.

You will report to the Global Energy and Climate Editor. While you will likely start the job working remotely, you will eventually be based in our Houston office.

You will:
  • Assist the Global Energy and Climate Editor in identifying news and enterprise story opportunities
  • Work with reporters to shape story ideas and to deliver camera-ready copy
  • Coordinate with other bureaus as appropriate on major stories
  • Develop visual plans with graphics and photo teams

You have:
  • Sharp storytelling skills, including news and shaping major enterprise
  • At least 5-7 years of experience as a reporter
  • Some editing experience

To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter explaining how you would approach the job.
