An exciting opportunity to help develop the profile and coverage of Telegraph Women’s Sport.

The Deputy Editor will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day coverage of women’s sports, and supporting the editor with commissioning and editing content.

This is a part-time position, which will work 4 days per week.

Key responsibilities

  • Commissioning, editing and distributing a range of women’s sport content across digital and print platforms
  • Helping to ensure that women’s sport coverage is effectively integrated into the wider sports desk’s agenda: liaising with commissioners and publishers, social team and design
  • Responsible for women’s sports news and live sport
  • Planning effectively across sports calendars
  • Building strong relationships with reporters and helping them to develop stories and ideas
  • Supporting the Women’s Sports Editor in the development and implementation of departmental strategies
  • Helping to curate and publish the monthly women’s sport supplement

Key skills

  • Ability to commission unique, original and important journalism
  • An understanding of the changing narrative around women’s sports coverage
  • Strong news sense and editorial judgement
  • Excellent editing skills - to fine tune a headline, or make a piece sing
  • Ability to curate impactful storytelling across a range of digital platforms
  • A team player with strong communication skills
  • Growth mindset in tackling challenges from navigating a fast-moving editorially driven Sport department, to helping to steer an investigative project
