Reporter - We are looking for a Social Media Journalist to join Scotland’s News Website of the Year team and award winning paper to source and bring social media stories to life ensuring that our readers stay engaged with our content.

Your Role: The Social Media Journalist plays a key role in the development and execution of the Scottish Sun’s social media strategy, as well as curating content and editing/maintaining Scottish Sun’s social media pages to a high standard and to satisfy a wide range of audiences.

Day to day

  • Play a key role in the ongoing development and execution of The Scottish Sun's social media strategy

  • Curate content from across Scottish Sun Online to satisfy a diverse range of audience demographics. 

  • Edit and maintain The Scottish Sun’s social media channels to a high standard in close conjunction with the rest of the team. 

  • Contribute to The Scottish Sun’s adoption of emerging social platforms and tools, and take responsibility for the growth of The Scottish Sun’s new social channels. 

  • Work directly with editorial, digital, video, picture, design, radio, commercial, marketing, social and audience teams across the business, ensuring their respective demands are met. 

  • As a team, ensure the newsroom has sufficient insight to produce Internet-friendly stories, and take responsibility for their subsequent distribution on social media channels. 

  • Actively source stories from social media that are likely to perform well across all Scottish Sun platforms with a focus on our own social channels

  • Focus on targets and be clear on what is required in order to meet them. Work flexibly across a seven-day rota.

  • Assist with best practice for SEO, including using Google Trends to make recommendations on key search terms and relevant keywords to maximise search traffic

What we’re looking for from you: 

  • Someone who is thoroughly passionate about all things journalism, social media, current affairs and sport

  • An understanding of the The Scottish Sun brand across print, digital and social media channels

  • Experience using Wordpress and analytic tools including Parse.ly, Google Analytics, Newswhip, Facebook, Twitter Analytics and Insights and Google Trends

  • Demonstrable experience to deliver consistently high standards under pressure in a deadline-driven environment

  • Experience of implementing best SEO practice 

  • A proactive approach with a willingness to take on any task

  • A team player and a problem-solver who can overcome obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches.
