About us

Cultureshock is the arts and culture content agency, with 20 years’ experience of working with cultural institutions, global brands, corporate companies and their partners.  We use our in-depth knowledge of the arts and culture sector to design and create content that attracts, engages and retains audiences for cultural brands.

Our team of arts and culture specialists create and distribute content – whether it’s magazines, books, websites or films – that is commercially viable, of the highest editorial standard, immediately credible, creative, fresh and bold.

We have over 25 creative and publishing specialists in our London office, as well as representatives in LA and New York, who have worked with many of the worlds' leading brands.

About the role

We are looking for freelance arts and culture journalists to work on our client projects. We produce bylined, unsigned and ghosted articles in print and online for leading museums and not-for-profits, performing arts companies, auction houses and galleries. We are particularly interested in writers covering the visual arts (contemporary and historic), opera and ballet, fashion, design and luxury — and writers based in the UK, USA, France, Germany and Asia.

The ideal candidates will be good editorial all-rounders able to write clear and lively copy for international readers — with a quick turnaround. You will be a confident interviewer and reporter with a minimum of five years’ working in a journalistic field. You will be willing to shape your copy, under our editors’ guidance, to meet our clients’ varied needs. Our clients expect flair, knowledge and accuracy.

Key skills

  • Five years’ journalism experience
  • Engaging, knowledgeable, accurate writing
  • Knowledge of one or more of the cultural fields outlined above
  • Confident with interviewees, which may include clients’ trustees, directors, senior creative staff or star performers
  • Able to turn copy around quickly
  • Comfortable working with skilled editors
